We all have choices we can make to advance in our careers, succeed in entrepreneurship, and build something meaningful for our families and communities, but those choices can be severely hindered by a lack of opportunity, which can be the result of several root causes.
The good news? There are practical steps we can take as entrepreneurs and people of influence within the marketplace to support the growth of ambitious, talented professionals who love their craft. This could look like following equitable hiring practices, providing entry-level career opportunities, investing in the long-term career and personal growth of our employees, or intentionally seeking the success of partners within our clients and vendors.
It all starts with seeing people. Before founding Trailmerge, I mentored and taught early-career and brand new UX designers. It was a richly rewarding experience, but I saw that many of these highly talented designers struggled to find employers who would take a chance on them for their first and second professional opportunities, as I had earlier in my career. So an early mission of Trailmerge was to hire early-career UX designers for client work at emerging SaaS startups. It’s been a privilege to work alongside and invest in each of these talented and passionate designers, and to now see them making a huge impact in a variety of companies and career paths as they have advanced into new opportunities!
Our business model at Trailmerge has changed to where we are now building out full custom applications with teams of experienced software developers, product designers, and product managers, but we have not moved from our heart of providing opportunities for career growth to talented professionals making the next step in their careers. What a joy it is to work with aspiring individuals who care about their craft and the impact they’re having on the world!
Businesses have a disproportionate ability to shape access to opportunity for people! So, let’s dream together: What’s the next step you can take to provide opportunity? Who are you uniquely positioned to support their growth towards greeter abundance?
